Staffers at the state police headquarters will be asked to take a lie detector test over the theft of an LED television set on April 3.
Police initially suspected a KSRP constable who had repaired the wiring in the conference hall on the seventh floor from where the television was stolen. He was later found to be innocent, a police officer said.
Senior police officers are certain that the expensive television set was stolen by an insider as it is “almost impossible” for an outsider to cart away such a large device from the high-security office of the DG&IGP on Nrupathunga Road in the heart of Bengaluru. Investigators have reviewed the CCTV footage many times but found no clue.
The staff at the DG&IGP’s office are frisked once they enter the imposing building but there is no checking when they leave. “The thief clearly knew this. It’s also possible that a senior officer used his subordinate staff to take the television home,” the officer said. Kamal Pant, ADGP (Administration), said the incident had been taken seriously and would be solved soon.
