The Karnataka State Temperance Board bans the sale, trade and transport of liquor on October 2 every year.

Officials from the Karnataka State Excise Department seal all the liquor shops and ensure that the supply of liquor is completely stopped in all shops and restaurants, all over the state. If any violation is seen, the shop will be seized by the government.

“The Temperance Board, along with all other departments of the state, works towards reducing the consumption of liquor. We also put up street plays in villages alerting people about the negative impacts of consumption of liquor,” says Meena Kumari Ishwar Patgar, Secretary, Karnataka State Temperance Board. Creating awareness among students in schools and colleges is their main aim.
