In a move to segregate wet waste from dry waste, Bangalore Development and Town Planning Minister K J George launched the twin litter bins at National Market in Gandhinagar on Monday morning.

As many as  2,232 such bins have been installed across the city for a litter-free Bengaluru. Speaking at the event, George appealed to citizens to make the best use of these bins to keep the city clean.
He said, “This initiative has been taken to help citizens and tourists dispose of waste. Pourakarmikas will not only collect waste from households but also clean the roads from 6 am to 10 am.’’

Mayor G Padmavathi said, ‘’This initiative has been undertaken under the Chief Minister’s Special Grants for city development to keep commercial areas and main roads clean. The move can only be successful with the cooperation of civic workers and officials.’’

BBMP commissioner Manjunatha Prasad said the chief minister had granted Rs 4.15 crore for it. BBMP corporator Latha Rathod was present.
