The Doddanekkundi flyover, opened in November 2018, has got a makeover.

In a community initiative, the Doddanekkundi flyover got a splendid makeover.

Over 120 volunteers helped paint the underside of the flyover in East Bengaluru last weekend.

BBMP officials, the local corporator and residents pitched in to beautify the structure which was completed last November.

The objective was to turn the pillars of the flyover poster-free and the surrounding area litter-free. The initiative was realised with the support of the volunteer group -- The Ugly Indians, known for neighbourhood cleanups.

Four pillars were painted on Saturday and Sunday. The volunteers created beautiful patterns and motifs on the pillars.

The group is further planning to paint the 27 pillars of the flyover over the next few weeks.

“Thanks to the support from the civic body to execute the event. The material and equipment were provided by The Ugly Indians. Corporator Swetha Vijaykumar took part in the event. We removed posters, cleaned the area under the pillars and painted them over,” said Clement C Jayakumar, a Doddanekundi resident.

However, some residents, meanwhile, felt it was the BBMP’s responsibility to undertake such works. “I think it is more important that we demand this type of work from the government than doing it all by ourselves while paying taxes,” a resident said.
