The Lokayukta police on Friday arrested four sub-registrars after conducting raids on their offices in the City.

About 12 touts who were found practically working in these offices have also been arrested. The arrested sub-registrars are: Shankarmurthy, Shivajinagar; Jayamma, Rajarajeshwarinagar; Shankare Gowda, Banashankari; and S Dinesh, the sub-registrar of Nagarabhavi. They will be booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Acting on the complaints alleging irregularities in the sub-registrar offices, four teams of the Lokayukta police swooped on the four offices.

Cash in excess of Rs 6,000 at Shivajinagar office, Rs 15,000 in Banashankari office, Rs 40,000 at Rajarajeshwarinagar office and Rs 62,000 at Nagarabhavi office were found.

At the Shivajinagar office on Leonard Lane, Nishad, a tout, was found making entries in a government register which keeps a record of the entire amount collected in the office. All the touts were found functioning inside the offices of the sub-registrar.

A tout, who claimed to be visiting sub-registrar’s office, was found to have only Rs 60 in his pocket. However, incriminating documents and a wallet were found when the police searched his vehicle. A vehicle key was found in his pocket, which turned out to be that of an i20 (a car) belonging to the sub-registrar.

This is the third time the Lokayukta police have targeted the offices of sub-registrars. Six offices were raided last August, while five more were raided in February this year. The February raids resulted in the arrest of two sub-registrars.
