The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) on Saturday said that its tunnel boring machine (TBM) Helen reached the end of Central College at the Sir M Visveswaraya underground station after having bored 925 metre since June 2011, when it was commissioned.

Margarita, another TBM, has already bored 915 metre underground and is expected to reach the college soon.

Helen’s breakthrough at Central College, at about 11 am on Saturday, the BMRCL claimed, has boosted the spirits of the workers.

BMRCL operationalised Reach-1 of Namma Metro, a teaser of the service, last year. But only the completion of the underground section will determine the overall success of the project.
The underground section is important as it connects different reaches of Namma Metro.
