A mad rush was witnessed at most of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) tax collection centres on Thursday as people lined up before the tax counters to pay property tax. April 30 was the last day to avail five per cent rebate on the property tax.

As the online property tax payment gateway crashed due to the heavy traffic, people rushed to the Palike offices to pay the taxes and get the rebate. There was a mad rush at the BBMP head office as well where people queued up in large numbers.

Many tax payers complained that the manual tax collection too has failed as the system was working very slow.

Manjunath from JB Nagar said, “The BBMP has not upgraded its online tax collection system which has resulted in chaos. I have been trying for the last five days to pay online but to no avail. Even the Palike officials are not capable enough to collect taxes manually.”

Manjunath and many others standing there demanded the BBMP to extend the deadline to avail five per cent concession on property tax for at least 15 days.
