“Salman was best suited for the role and that is why we chose him (as hero). Being Mammootty's son is an added advantage,” the film’s director Sreenath Rajendran informed.

Besides Salman, the film’s cast includes newcomer Gauthamy Nair, as the heroine; Bollywood actor Sudesh Berry, who is making his debut in a regional film, and Baburaj, who has enacted the villain’s role in several films. Berry, who has acted in films like 'Border’ and Vansh, a remake of renowned director Mani Ratnam’s Tamil movie Agni Nakshthram, said he did not know the language. “But I know the language of expression, love and the language of humanity,” he said.

Rajendran said that Salman is donning the role of a village youth, who is prepared to do any kind of job. The shooting of the film, estimated to cost about Rs 3.5 crore, has started a month ago, at Kozhikode and Puducherry.

“It will take another 20 days to complete the film,” said Rajendran, who has worked as an assistant under popular director Jayaraj. He also said that they had approached Mammootty for his permission to cast Salman in the film. “Mammootty had asked for the script and had left the decision to Salman,” he said.

The Advantage Overseas Private Limited (AOPL), which is producing the movie, has its headquarters in Mumbai and deals mainly in agricultural produce export and import business.

“The company forayed into Malayalam films in 2011 after making a film 'Violin' directed by renowned Malayalam film director Sibi Malayil,” said Prashant Narayanan, managing director of AOPL.
