Alert officials of Air Intelligence Unit and Customs apprehended a 50-year-old man who was trying to smuggle gold biscuits worth more than Rs 41 lakh on Tuesday.

The arrested, identified as Mahmoud Baig Mirza, was travelling from Dubai to Bengaluru. Twelve gold biscuits weighing 1,400 grams were found concealed in a mobile phone cover to be smuggled from Dubai to the city.

The arrest and the seizure were based on a tip-off. Mirza is a tailor at C V Raman Nagar and he had gone to Dubai. He met a man who offered him Rs 5,000 for carrying the stuff to Bengaluru, an official said. 

The suspect was produced before a magistrate who remanded him in judicial custody.
