Prabhakaran, 40, a clerk with the Military Hospital at Ambala in Haryana, on Friday stabbed his wife Kirthana, 37, and her family members over a property dispute at their residence in Horamavu.

Prabhakaran assaulted his wife and in-laws Gopal, 70, Lakshmi, 65, and daughter Ashwathi, 13, a Class VIII student, with a dagger.

Kirthana, a software professional, was staying along with her parents and daughter at Horamavu, while Prabhakaran was away at Amabala. Recently, Prabhakaran and Kirthana had bought a plot in Horamavu. After a few months, Kirthana asked Prabhakaran to transfer the entire property in her name, to which he obliged.

When he returned to Ambala, he received a divorce notice from his wife. Furious, Prabhakaran came back to Bangalore in February and the couple constantly fought over the issue. On Friday, at around 3 pm, following a heated argument which took a violent turn, Prabhakaran assaulted the family members with the dagger.

Hearing their screams, neighbours and passersby rushed to find Prabhakaran assaulting them. By the time the police arrived, he had fled. However, the police nabbed him in the vicinity.

The injured family members are being treated at a nearby hospital in the ICU. His mother-in-law Lakshmi is said to be in a critical condition.

A case has been registered at the Hennur police station and further investigation is on.

Kirthana’s first marriage ended when her husband died following illness. Ashwathi is her daughter from the first marriage. She was a single mother for seven years till she met Prabhakaran, a native of Tamil Nadu and also a divorcee, through a matrimonial website.
