A 25-year-old auto-rickshaw driver died when his sister’s husband pushed him during a fight over a petty matter at Bapujinagar, off Mysuru Road, on Sunday night.

Haneef, 25, a resident of Mallathahalli, had gone to the house of Imtiyaz, 35, his sister’s husband. Imtiyaz’s wife had taken ill recently and was hospitalised. She was discharged a few days ago. On Sunday night, Haneef went to Imtiyaz’s house to enquire about his sister’s health.

But Imtiyaz got angry at the sight of Imtiaz. He was furious because Haneef hadn’t visited the hospital when his (Haneef’s) was admitted there. Imtiyaz scolded Haneef and asked him to leave the house. Haneef objected to Imtiyaz’s behaviour and asked him to mind his language.

Soon, the two men began to fight and pushed each other. Imtiyaz’s friend Fayyaz intervened and tried to pacify the two men but they would not listen. In the melee, Imtiyaz pushed Haneef down and he fainted.

Numbed by the sudden turn of events, the family members rushed Haneef to a hospital but doctors there declared him brought dead. Imtiyaz’s wife later made a complaint to the police, accusing her husband of attacking and murdering Haneef.

Police then registered a case and arrested Imtiaz. “Imtiyaz and Haneef manhandled each other. Haneef didn’t suffer any injuries and no weapon was used in the attack. Haneef seems to have died of a massive heart attack. The cause of the murder would be known after the post-mortem,” said the inspector of Byatarayanapura police station.

Imtiyaz, also an auto-rickshaw driver, had married Haneef’s sister a few years ago.
