The man arrested, Ameer Pasha (30), is married to Masthan Bi (20).
According to police, Ameer and his mother harassed Bi for more dowry. An alcoholic, Pasha used to beat his wife regularly.
Bi’s parents alleged in the complaint that they had given Rs 30,000 and jewellery as dowry, during the wedding. Unable to bear the harassment, she decided to end her life, they alleged.
Bi hanged herself recently from a ceiling fan at her house. Ameer’s mother is absconding, police said.
