The post-mortem report has helped police solve the mysterious death of a 28-year-old mentally challenged woman on June 28.
The woman was strangled by none other than her brother over a petty issue, police have concluded. N Shivakumar, a resident of Anchepet, was fed up with his sister, N Mahalakshmi, who didn’t want him to work as she thought he would desert her as well as their father, Nanjundappa.
Shivakumar had been looking for a job for the past few months but her sister threw a spanner in the works. He tried to convince her but she remained firm. He then decided to kill her.
Accordingly, he strangled her with a wire when she was asleep, police said.
When Mahalakshmi didn’t come out of her bedroom even after 8 pm the next day, her father went in and tried to wake her up. He took her to a private hospital with the help of a relative. Doctors referred her to Victoria Hospital where she was declared brought dead, said the inspector of the jurisdictional City Market police station.
In the post-mortem report, doctors stated that Mahalakshmi had died from ligature strangulation. Nanjundappa was shocked at learning about the report and filed a complaint with the police who then picked up Shivakumar for questioning.
