The state government told the High Court that it would take cabinet approval to provide an alternate land for a land loser in a month’s time.
The court was hearing a contempt petition by SV Yogeshwar, a resident of Yelahanka, whose land the BBMP acquired to extend a graveyard.
Yogeshwar moved the court seeking action against the Bengaluru Urban deputy commissioner who failed to grant him an alternative land despite the directions of the court.
Yogeshwar contended that the BBMP did not follow due processes in acquiring his land which he used for farming with a borewell. The land was next to the graveyard and the BBMP wanted to extend it.
He later filed a writ petition asking the court to direct the deputy commissioner to a lot an alternative land.
On July 25 last year, the court directed DC urban to grant the land to Yogeshwar in eight weeks. The failure of BBMP to implement the order prompted him to file the contempt petition. But the deputy commissioner, merely to escape the court’s ire, allotted a piece of land used for garbage dump, which Yogeshwar refused to take.
In the previous hearing, the court had expressed its displeasure and asked the DC to allot him land. It adjourned the case for a month.
