Rahul, after his arrest, told the police that for the past couple of years he has been working with Sachin, a jewellery merchant at Chickpet. Following directions from Sachin to collect Rs 45 lakh from his friend Sunil, Rahul was ferrying the money.

Based on Rahul’s statement, police interrogated Sachin. More people buy gold during Akshaya Tritiya, Sachin told the police.
So, he had asked Sunil to give him Rs 45 lakh as a loan to purchase more gold. He accepted that he had sent his assistant to collect the money. The money has nothing to do with the election, added Sachin. Sunil, too, confirmed Rahul visiting his house and collecting the money.

Mahalakshmi Layout police said they had registered a case under Non-Cognisable Report (NCR) and has informed the income tax officials. Sunil and Sachin, meanwhile, were directed to produce valid documents to account for the money.
