Manmohan, Shinde, Gogoi call CM over security to N-E people

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi called upon Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Wednesday and took note of the situation relating to the exodus of people from the north-eastern states from Bangalore.

According to sources in the chief minister’s office, Shettar, who briefed about the situation is said to have told the Prime Minister, Home Minister as well as Gogoi that there was nothing to worry as it was just rumours doing the rounds. It is also learnt that Shettar has assured the trio that there will not be any problem and the State is geared up to deal with any eventuality that may occur.

The Prime Minister asked Shettar to ensure the safety of people of North-East origin residing in the State. 

Manmohan Singh also advised him to monitor anti-social elements, who may try to spread false rumours to spoil social harmony, and to deploy additional forces for protection in places where large number of people from north eastern states stay.

The Prime Minister’s instructions to Shettar came close on the heels of attack on students from North-East in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and other places.
