A day after the balcony of Mantri Square collapsed injuring at least three housekeeping staffers, the Malleswaram police on Tuesday registered a case of criminal negligence against the mall’s owner and others.

Meanwhile, P R Palangappa, the joint commissioner of BBMP west zone, has formed a four-member committee for examining the structural strength of the mall.

The panel has to submit its report within 15 days. It will also suggest repair works which should be taken up to ensure that such incidents do not recur in future.

Radhakrishna, associate professor, R V College of Engineering; K S Jayasimha,
R Nagendra and M S Sudarshan all from Civil-Aid Technoclinic Private Limited, are the members of the committee.

Meanwhile, the mall remained closed for public on Tuesday.  “We are undergoing maintenance. Will be opening soon,” said the banners put up at all entry and exit points. Only security personnel of the mall and some housekeeping personnel were at work. The owners of the shops inside the mall were let inside for checking on their merchandise.
