Mayor B N Manjunath Reddy on Tuesday visited areas around the KR Market and found the roads in a pathetic shape – the very roads for which fake bills to the tune of Rs 9.5 crore were raised and the payment was about to be made when the fraud came to the fore.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Umesh, who accompanied the mayor, said that the roads around the Market had been a traffic bottleneck and sought the latter to develop them.

He said that there was an urgency to fill the potholes and repair the roads. The police officer also told the mayor that lack of streetlights on the roads was leading to accidents and a majority of the victims were pedestrians.

The Palike has entrusted the job of concreting these roads to the Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited for which additional 11 per cent of the sanctioned amount has been paid. The mayor also visited the pedestrian subway at the KR Market and noticed that the lights were not functioning there.

The bus stand at the Kalasipalya was stinking badly due to huge heaps of garbage, which remained uncleared for many months. Mayor also saw the biomethanation unit, which was inaugurated with great fanfare but lying defunct for many months. He warned the officers for not operationalising the unit.
