Mayor reviews BBMP's financial health

Mayor D Venkatesh Murthy held a meeting on Monday with the joint commissioners of all the 20 departments and eight zones of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) along with chief engineers, as part of his budget preparations.

Mayor discussed the financial health of the Palike and sought details about the receipts and payments.

Murthy told Deccan Herald that he would not make any proposal for the 14 wards coming under the Bangalore Rural Lok Sabha constituency in case the election code of conduct was coming in the way of presenting the budget.

“We can exclude provisions regarding the 14 wards. Once the elections are over, we can come out with a supplementary budget for the left out wards,” said Murthy.

ECI clearance

The meeting was in anticipation to the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) clearance to the Palike to present budget on July 26.

The Palike has sought permission from the ECI clearance to present the budget and no response has been received till now, sources in the Palike said.

Murthy continues to be a caretaker mayor after his term came to an end on April 27.
