Two men on a motorbike blocked a politician’s car and fired at him on Friday. He was injured, but police reckon he will survive. Kadabagere Srinivas was near Kogilu Cross, on the highway to the Kempegowda airport, when he was ambushed. It was 11.40 am when the assailants fired seven or eight rounds and sped away. A bleeding Srinivas was rushed to hospital, where surgeons removed the bullets from his body.

Srinivas was recently elected president of the Agricultural Produce Market Committee, Yeshwantpur. Srinivas was earlier associated with the BJP, and had recently joined the Congress. He contested the recent APMC elections and won. His shifting loyalties could have led to the attack, a police officer said. Rajamouli, who was driving Srinivas in a Honda City, escaped unhurt. Srinivas was going home to Dasanapura after a meeting, police said. The car was idling at a signal when the assailants blocked it and opened fire.

Public scare
Many eyewitnesses panicked and started running helter-skelter. A traffic police constable posted at the signal took help from citizens and shifted Srinivas to Columbia Asia Hospital, police said. Srinivas has sustained injuries on his back and stomach. Police reckon he is stable. Yelahanka police cordoned off the scene of crime before summoning ballistic and forensic experts.

“It looks like the assailants used country-made weapons, but we are waiting for ballistic reports,” a senior police officer said. Investigators are analysing call records from mobile towers in the vicinity and looking at CCTV footage to identify the assailants. Srinivas and his younger brother Poison Rama have many criminal cases pending against them. In fact, Rama faces at least 20 cases, police said. City police commissioner Praveen Sood was among the top brass who visited the spot.
