Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar told the Council on Thursday that the government was unable to initiate phase 2 of the Bangalore Metro project as the Union Cabinet’s approval for the same was awaited.

Replying to a query posed by BJP MLC M R Doreswamy in the Council, Shettar said that once the Centre gave its nod, the State would start works on the project and complete the same within five years.

“The State Cabinet has given its approval for the project and set aside Rs 400 crore for preliminary works. A proposal has been sent to the Centre for release of funds. In fact I have given a separate memorandum to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram,” he added.
