Chaos ensued at Vidhana Saudha metro station as thousands of passengers rushed to buy tickets and entered the paid area after the swearing-in ceremony on Wednesday evening.
To clear the rush, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) had pressed into service about eight additional trains.
“There was a huge rush. Many passengers created a ruckus as they had to wait in long queues to buy tickets. Staffers were authorised to allow passengers to board the train and the fare was collected before the exit at the destination stations,” said A S Shankar, Executive Director of Operation and Maintenance.
Right from 3 pm, trains started running in peak hour frequency on both the metro lines. On the Purple Line (Byappanahalli-Mysore Road), trains ran for every four minutes from 3 pm to 6 pm. The frequency was six minutes on the Green Line at the same time.
Regular metro travellers complained that some of the political parties' workers were rude to the metro staffers.
“Metro staffers had a hard time controlling the unruly crowd. Despite repeated requests, the political parties' workers refused to stand in the queue and would shout at them,” said Rajesh N, who was travelling from Vidhana Soudha.
