In an official note, Mico Bosch management said the strike was illegal as the workers had not given the seven-day notice period.

“The outsourcing initiative has not resulted in any job loss whatsoever and is a common practice resorted to by Bosch Limited and the industry as part of modernisation to maintain a competitive edge and secure the future,” read the statement.

While their original plan would have resulted in the re-deployment of 140 workers, it had been scaled down due to the current slowdown in the economy. They have, however, admitted that the outsourcing would see at least 40 workers being re-deployed from their current positions. Mico Bosch has employed nearly 2,500 unionised workers.
