The girls had entered into a pact to run away from home after being scolded for getting low marks in school tests. The City’s Ulsoor police went to Vellore, picked up the girls and handed them over to their parents.

According to the police, Alisha, Sushmitha, Tola Sayeera and Shilpa, all 10-year-olds,  were upset after their parents warned that they would be sent to different schools if they did not get better marks.

Sayeera hatched a plot to flee to her grandmother’s house in Vellore. Her three friends agreed to join her. Sayeera’s mother, a housekeeper in an IT firm, was at work when her daughter returned from school. Shilpa rode a two-wheeler from home to reach Sayeera’s house, while the other two came there straight from school.

The foursome took a bus from Hosur Road and reached Vellore. They failed to locate the grandmother’s house, returned to the bus stand and narrated their tale to the bus conductor of the bus which they had taken. The conductor handed them over to the police. The girls refused to disclose their addresses and the police had to ferret out a mobile number from Shilpa’s bag and inform her parents. The parents in turn alerted the Ulsoor police, who brought the girls home.
