Pet lovers in the city staged a protest in front of BBMP headquarters on Wednesday afternoon demanding a better monitoring committee for all animal birth control (ABC) centres in the city.

Around 35 people had gathered and demanded that the BBMP ensure better enforcement of its rules and have efficient people to run ABC centres in the city. Geetha Misra, a pet lover and animal rights activist said, “There is no efficiency of treatment in ABC centres. There is no monitoring committee to look after this and this is taking a toll on the lives of dogs.”

She also alleged that the BBMP is not calling tenders properly and is involved in a huge money-making scam. “Operations are not done by trained doctors in ABC centres,” she said. She also alleged that the BBMP claims to have treated as many as 17,200 dogs in a month.
