Swamp deer fawn
Visitors at Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, Mysuru, will soon see many new guests as the century-old zoo has added to its list of animals of various species through exchange programmes and a few rescued from the forests nearby.
The new guests will soon be on public display at the zoo. The zoo received lion-tailed macaques (Rama and Anitha) from Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Chennai, on June 17, through an animal exchange programme.
A male and female leopard cat, rescued from Virajpet and Kushalnagar range on April 22 and May 14, will be on public display soon as the quarantine period has been completed.
This apart, a tufted capuchin monkey baby that was born on April 21 is being nursed in the incubator at Mysuru Zoo hospital. Two swamp deer fawns were born in one of the enclosures in May and June. Likewise, three gaur calves born in May and June will also be on display.
Mysuru Zoo is identified as a conservation breeding centre of Indian bisons by the Central Zoo Authority.
Two dusky lory chicks have hatched in the aviary on June 16, according to Kamala Karikalan, Executive Director of Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens.
