The first Namma Metro train, which travelled through the tunnel from the Cubbon Park underground station, emerged on the elevated Magadi Road station at 6.45 pm on Sunday.
The train had left the Cubbon Park station at around 4 pm on Thursday. The train passed through the underground Vidhana Soudha, Central College, Majestic and City stations, before emerging at the elevated Magadi Road station, sources in the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) told Deccan Herald.
The electrification is still to be done on these underground stations and hence the train was pushed by a battery-operated loco till Magadi Road station. Since for the first time the train was put through tunnels, it moved slowly and stopped at every station before reaching Magadi Road. BMRCL officials took note of various parameters at every station on the stretch, the sources said.
The BMRCL Managing Director Pradeep Singh Kharola had said on Thursday that safety trials would be conducted after the train travels to Magadi Road station. He had said that the stretch (Reach 2) would most likely be opened by June 2015.
Prior to putting the train on the underground stretch, the BMRCL had run a structure gauge from the Cubbon Park station. The structure gauge weighing 560 kilograms and having similar dimension as the Metro coach was run on the track manually.
