The Bangalore University (BU) campus in Jnanabharathi will get a new ladies hostel. The work on the building, being executed by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), is almost complete.

BU vice-chancellor Venugopal K R told DH, “The building is likely to be inaugurated in the first week of October. The construction work was completed in two-and-a-half years. This building will be the first milestone for Bangalore University after the trifurcation. It can accommodate nearly 450 students. The new hostel will have all the latest facilities. Each room has separate bathrooms, which was the main issue in the previous buildings. We are expecting the turn key from BDA officials by next week.”

The new hostel building is been constructed just behind the old ladies hostel. It consists of 150 rooms, where each room accommodates three students.

“There are also plans to provide WiFi facilities, which will be worked out after the inauguration. As this building is located beside the old ladies hostel, it will have round-the-clock police security. Funds were also released for the installation of the CCTV cameras on the premises, and the building will be maintained by the university,” said a senior BU official.
