A recent intervention by doctors at Narayana Multispeciality Hospital in Whitefield has saved a centenarian from a permanent paralytic condition.
Ramaswamy (102), a retired professional, was rushed to the hospital following weakness in his left hand and leg. An MRI scan revealed he had a stroke in the right side of the brain, which led to insufficient blood supply, leading to a block in the blood vessel.
Doctors decided to do away with the traditional mode of treatment and gave him thrombolysis to dissolve potentially dangerous blood clots, improve the blood flow and prevent organ and tissue damage. Thrombolysis involves injecting drugs to remove the clots by an intravenous (IV) line.
