Speaking to reporters, the Executive Trustee for CIVIC Bangalore, Kathyayini Chamraj has appealed to the BBMP to generate revenue instead of taxing citizens for garbage collection.
“Assuming generation of approximately one kilo of waste from each unit and estimating generation of a rupee from each kilo of waste generated, the Palike can earn Rs 182 crore per year,” she stated.
Public consultation
On the issue of the garbage tenders, the organisation has called for public consultation and publishing of the draft tender before finalising the garbage collection tender awardees. Till date this has not been done, the organisation said.
It has also asked the Palike to ensure that each garbage collection contractor is awarded one package to enhance competition and performance among the contractors.
