Students of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT)  staged a protest on the campus on Monday opposing a hike in the fee.

The Institute has planned to increase the fee from Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000 from the current academic year.

The students who are staging a two-day protest said they held a meeting with the director of the Institute on Monday evening, but was inconclusive.

“We were told that the Institute cannot promise us anything,” a final year student said.

“It is unfair to burden the existing students, especially those pursuing second or final year degree with the hike as they are yet to make arrangements. The fee hike, if at all, has to be made for freshers as they will be prepared to pay the same amount for the next three years and can choose in the beginning itself whether or not to pursue the course in the Institute,” the students said. The protest will continue on Tuesday.
