There will be no extension of 5% rebate on property tax this time. Taxpayers should make the payment before April 30 to avail benefit, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike said on Monday.

Briefing media persons, Venkata Chalapathy, joint commissioner (revenue), BBMP said: "There is a provision to give a rebate on property tax. Earlier, due to a bug in the online system and other technical snags, the rebate was extended after April 30. However, there are no technical glitches associated with tax payment software this year. Hence there will be no extension of the rebate."

"Tax collection has begun for the financial year 2018-19 and people can pay the tax both in offline and online modes. For offline mode payment, the taxpayer can generate challans at the BBMP ward offices as well as at all branches of HDFC, Canara Bank, ICICI and Axis banks in the city. We have directed banks to set up separate counters with nodal officers," he added.
