Students of architecture battled it out at the Southern Interface and the grand finale of ‘Archumen ’13-’14’, which was held in the City recently. The event was organised by Ethos, an organisation that builds awareness specifically on built environment, among architecture and civil engineering students in India.

The earlier rounds in the East, North and West categories were held in Kolkata, New Delhi and Pune respectively. The Southern Interface, which was followed by the national finals, had over 300 students, faculty and architects, participate in full strength. There were also teams who travelled from different parts of the country to take part in the competition.

Prasad Shekhar and Ashwin Joshi from Pune scored a hat-trick by garnering 100 points with ease and bagging the championship trophy yet again, this year.

“There’s a lot of research and hard work behind this achievement. Over the last three years, what we’ve realised is that the there is no escape from hard work. Preparing last minute will not help at all,” they said.

The first runners-up were Aparna Ramesh and Varun Lahoti from Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur followed by Rahul Jadon and Swapnil Singh from Gautum Buddh Technical University, Lucknow.

A member of the audience, Harshitha Chandrashekhar, a first-year architecture student, said, “Since we are still in the first year, we found the questions really tough. Being here has been a learning experience.” Another student, Divya G, said, “It’s a new experience for us. The questions were difficult but I think in the next couple of years, we’ll get a hang of it. But it’s been fun participating.”
