Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday appealed to farmers to not resort to suicide. It (suicide) will not help in solving the problem,” he told reporters after unveiling the logo for the Bangalore International Film Festival (BIFFES).

A tobacco farmer from KR Nagar taluk of Mysore district committed suicide just two days after a sugar cane grower took his life outside Suvarna Soudha in Belgaum due to financial distress and poor prices for the produce.

The proposed Agriculture Price Commission (APC) was before the Cabinet subcommittee, Siddaramaiah said. The commission would look into creating a balanced price list appreciating farmers’ produce.

The chief minister also said the KJP leader B S Yedyurappa might continue the protest but the legislature should be taken seriously.

“There has to be space for discussion, only then can we find solutions to problems,” he said.
