The cleanliness drive began few months back with BBMP Commissioner Bharat Lal Meena directing the stall owners to place their products in glass cabinets to maintain hygiene and to ascertain quality.

Accordingly, the BBMP directed its health inspectors to inspect the mutton stalls in their jurisdiction two weeks ago. Having given them a week’s time, the Palike from Saturday embarked upon issuing notices to 1,193 stalls in the City.

According to the BBMP Health Department, there are 2,152 stalls in the City. The authorities in their estimate have found another 129 stalls which do not have a trade licence. “We will be placing a fine on the stalls that have shown no compliance to our parameters on a discretionary basis,” informed a Palike official.
