Maintaining that he was not promoted to the IAS rank despite meeting all the eligibility criteria, Puttaswamy had approached the Central Administrative Tribunal seeking its intervention in the matter.
Hearing the petition, the Tribunal ruled in favour of Puttaswamy and ordered the Union Government to promote him to the IAS rank. Complying with the ruling, the Centre has issued an order promoting Puttaswamy to the IAS category.
