Most of us would prefer the traditional mode of transport, be it the bus or train. But this has taken a backseat of late, as more and more people take to the road in cars or bikes.
Says Ajay, “There is a thrill in riding bikes and going to distant places. There is nothing much one can do when travelling on a bus. When you are on a bike, you can stop wherever you like, eat wherever you want. And the best part is, we can go wherever the road takes us.” This is what drives most of these people.

There is freedom to experiment with the route you take and the destination you intend to reach. Even Zulfiqaar, an avid biker, agrees, “It is all about doing something different and being different. There is so much to observe and enjoy when going on a trip and travelling on bikes lets us do exactly this.”

Road trips doesn’t just comprise going on a very long journey. It can be spur-of-the-moment decisions which one makes after a tiring day at work. If you want to ease your mind off, such road trips are the best option. And many vouch for this. Says Divya, a student, “We never make prior plans. We randomly decide and drive to the outskirts of the City. We have made many trips like this and we have gone all the way to Mysore just to have a cup of coffee and come back.”

Essentially, the purpose of such trips is to enjoy the freedom of being on your own. But a word of caution here. No amount of preparation is ever enough. Adds Ajay, “Before starting our journey, we determine our fuel stops beforehand. And we also do a lot of research about the road and weather conditions. We can handle a tyre puncture or a minor breakdown but we cannot rule out any worst-case scenarios. Anything can happen and we have to be prepared.”

As he points out, they have had a few bad experiences when they had to ride in insane driving conditions and were almost run over by huge trucks.
Says Zulfiqaar, “Most of the vehicles today are easy to maintain and come with a tool box. And we make sure we always carry additional equipment to help us if anything untoward happens.”

He adds, “Before one decides to go on a road trip, one should ensure that the vehicle is in good working condition. And it doesn’t matter how far you have to travel, all that matters is that you have like-minded people along with you so that it can be a fun ride.”
