One person was killed on the spot and nine suffered injuries after a car in which they were travelling met with an accident with a private bus near Lakshmipura on Kanakapura Road on Sunday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Shankar (40), a Dalit Sangharsha Samiti leader and a resident of Govindapura in Hoskote.

The injured are - Venkataraju, Rupa, Sunil and Harish, who travelled by the four-wheeler and Shashank Gowda, Kenchamma, Narasamma, Gowramma and Jayamma, all passengers of the private bus.

The injured have been shifted to Nimhans and the condition of three among the injured  is said to be critical. Shankar, Venkataraju, Rupa, Sunil and Harish visited the Kabbalamma temple near Kanakapura early on Sunday. While they were returning to Hoskote, the driver of the private bus from Bengaluru, which was heading towards Kanakapura, tried to overtake the car near IBA College. The car turned turtle and the bus ran over it.

Shankar, who was driving the car, was killed on the spot.
Onlookers pulled out four injured victims, who were stuck between the bus and car.
The Talaghattapura police have registered a case in this regard and have taken the bus driver into custody.
