Bengaluru: A 23-year-old IT employee was killed and three others sustained injuries after an LPG cylinder explosion triggered a fire at a paying guest (PG) accommodation in Kundalahalli, within HAL police station limits, on Monday evening. Tension gripped in the area for a while following the mishap and residents alerted fire department.

A senior officer said the blast occurred at Seven Hills Sai Co-Living PG, around 6.30 pm. Police said a commercial Gas cylinder exploded in the kitchen area, leading to a fire and thick smoke engulfing parts of the building.

The PG building has a ground-plus-six floors with 43 rooms. Fire personnel rushed to the spot and doused the flames, while police evacuated occupants from the premises.

The deceased has been identified as Aravind, son of Manjunath K, aged 23, a native of Ballari. He was working as a senior analyst at in a private IT firm in Whitefield. He reportedly suffered severe burn injuries and died during treatment.

Three others were injured in the incident. They are:

Venkatesh (28), a native of Kurnool

Vishal Verma (23), from Uttarakhand

C.V. Goel (25), a woman from Uttarakhand .

All the injured are undergoing treatment at Brookfield Hospital and are stated to be stable.

According to the police, the PG building is owned by Vishnu, a resident of Andhra Pradesh. The facility is locally managed by Roja, while Mukesh was employed as the cook at the PG.

HAL police have registered a case and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the explosion and to verify whether safety norms related to the use of commercial LPG cylinders were violated.
