A group of NGOs, working on road safety, have joined hands to pressure the Centre for a potent Road Safety Bill.

NGOs including Save life Foundation, Arundhati Foundation from Bengaluru, Delhi-based organisation Indian Head Injury Foundation and V Citizens Network from Mumbai, have launched an online campaign www.roadsafetyatrisk.in, to gather public support for strengthening the Bill.

People can write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting his intervention in the matter.
“We urge the prime minister to ensure that there is no compromise in the Bill. Enough lives have been lost and the safety of road users should be priority,” said Piyush Tewari, who founded the SaveLIFE Foundation after the death of a young member of his family in a road accident in 2008.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau figures, more than 15 lakh people have been killed in road accidents in India since the proposal of an amended Road Safety Bill was first mooted in 2001.
