The Krishnarajapuram police arrested two persons, including a woman, on Tuesday who rented out houses to 19 Africans who were arrested last Tuesday by Whitefield division police for overstaying in the city.

The arrested, Amir Chote Sab (38) a resident of TC Palya in Krishnarajapuram and Neelamma (35) a resident of Seegehalli in Krishnarajapuram were booked under various sections of the Passport Act and Foreigners Act. Both were produced before the magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.

Abdul Ahad, DCP (Whitefield) said a circular had been issued and awareness programmes were conducted among people asking them to inform the police within 15 days of renting out their house to foreigners. They had also made it mandatory for owners to get the copies of the foreigners’ passports and residential permits.

They have to submit these documents to the police and to the FRRO and take permission from them. If house owners fail to follow the procedure. Police also listed owners who had rented out their houses to overstaying foreign nationals.
