Two social organisations have charged the BBMP with allowing two marriage halls at Kathriguppe, belonging to a former corporator, to function, despite building plan violations.

The members of the National Anti-Corruption Society and the Nagarika Hakku Matthu Maulya Samrakshana Samithi, led by Vinay and Shivakumar R on Monday submitted a memorandum to BBMP commissioner urging the latter to comply with the direction of the High Court in the matter.

They also gave representation to minister for Bengaluru Development, K J George. The members said that L Govindaraj, who was a corporator during the previous BBMP council from Ganesh Mandir ward, owns two marriage halls in Kathriguppe and the halls were violating various laws. They said the High Court had ordered closure of halls in 2010 but the BBMP did not take any action.

“Allowing these halls to function amounts to contempt of contempt. If the BBMP fails to act on our complaint, we will initiate legal action against everybody involved,” he said.

He added that the file pertaining to these marriage halls were with BBMP commissioner and there had been response despite several applications under the RTI Act.
