The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Friday resumed the demolition drive in the city to remove structures built on stormwater drains (SWDs.)

BBMP staff bulldozed four sheds and also took possession of 14 vacant sites that were on an SWD at Shettyhalli in the Palike’s Dasarahalli zone. The BBMP officials had issued notices to the families residing in these sheds to vacate the place.

BBMP chief engineer (SWD) Sidde Gowda said that in the next 10 days, 147 structures on SWDs will be demolished and 230 vacant sites will be taken into possession in Byatarayanapura, Yelahanka, Bommanahalli, Mahadevapura, Rajarajeshwarinagar and Dasarahalli zones. Most of the structures  identified for demolition are in Chokkasandra village in Dasarahalli zone and Nagarabhavi in Rajarajeshwari Nagar zone.

BBMP sources said that for now the Palike is focusing mainly on small sheds and vacant sites and not buildings.
