Passenger traffic up by 28% at KIA

The Kempegowda International Airport handled 80.13 lakh passengers between July and September, as against the 60.35 lakh passengers during the corresponding period in the 2017-18 financial year.

The Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), which operates KIA, said in a release that the second quarter registered a double digit growth of 28.1% in passenger traffic. The three months saw 70.07 lakh domestic passengers from Bengaluru, thereby registering an increase of 30.5% in comparison to the same period last year. In addition, 10.06 lakh passengers travelled to international destinations, recording an upsurge of 13.8% over the corresponding quarter last fiscal.

“While Delhi (11.21 lakh passengers), Mumbai (9.06 lakh) and Hyderabad (4.55 lakh) were the most preferred domestic destinations, Dubai (1.99 lakh passengers), Singapore (1.52 lakh) and Colombo (74,303) were the top three international destinations from Bengaluru,” it said.

There were 59,184 landings and take-offs, as against 47,971 during the same period last year. The airport managed 692 aircraft on August 31, 2018. The average daily flight movement was 643 per day.
