A patient, who accused the Rangadore Memorial Hospital of medical negligence, created a ruckus in front of the hospital on Thursday for being asked to wait outside.

Family members of the patient Rajendra Prasad (62), an auto driver, who was admitted to the hospital three months ago, had alleged that he had suffered severe burns while being given a sitz bath at the hospital.

On Wednesday, the family alleged that the patient was referred to Jayadeva Institute of Cardio Vascular Sciences on the pretext that he was suffering from a cardiac ailment. However, the patient’s kin argued that according to medical reports he did not suffer from any heart-related ailment.

On returning back to Rangadore Memorial Hospital on Thursday, they claimed that they were not let inside.

Hospital authorities said that the patient’s family vandalised the hospital in a fit of rage. Dr R Rajkumar, medical director of Rangadore Memorial Hospital said “As there were no vacant beds we refused to take him in. Out of anger, they broke open gates, threw stones, vandalised the hospital and also barged into the ward,” he added.

Rajkumar added that the patient’s course of treatment was complete and yet, the family had refused to take the discharge summary.

“He has been abusing staff members. The hospital came to a standstill for four hours. There are lot of forums, let them approach them. We are ready to pay the fine if found guilty,” he said.

It was after a member of the Karnataka Human Rights Commission intervened that the situation was brought back to normal.
