Parthanarayan, a resident of Suddaguntepalya, hung himself in the hospital's bathroom when his relatives had gone outside, around 6 pm.

The deceased was admitted to the hospital on Monday with cough and fever. After examination it was found that he had pulmonary Tuberculosis and diabetes also, said Dr K Nagarajan, the Hospital's Medical Superintendent.

"There was no suicide note. The neighbouring patients said that he did not have any visitors. Hence, it may have been a case of depression," said Dr Nagarajan.

The Tilaknagar police, however, said that the patient did have relatives who were with him until he took the extreme step. The body has been kept at Victoria Hospital where a post-mortem will be conducted. A case of suicide has been registered.
