People ask MLAs to vote against tree cutting act

There would be no need to acquire permission before axing over 50 species of trees, according to the state government.

The move was not taken lightly by a city-based citizen group and an online stir began against it.

The Karnataka government is all set to introduce an amendment to the Karnataka Tree Preservation Act of 1976.

Amendment tabled

The amendment was tabled in the Assembly on Friday. It lists over 50 species of trees that will not require any permission to be cut down if it gets implemented.

The Citizen for Bengaluru (CfB), a citizen group launched an online campaign against the amendment on Tuesday night on Twitter and Facebook asking various MLA's to vote against the KTP act.

Speaking to DH, Srinivas Alavilli , Member of CfB said "We are all asking our MLAs to vote against this disastrous amendment to KTP act. The act may be dangerous if implemented, hence we launched the flash social media campaign requesting our MLA to reject the act."
