As many as 34 students who are scheduled to write their Class X (SSLC) exams in March 2017, have approached the Karnataka High Court challenging the government’s decision to change the exam pattern.

The Karnataka Secondary Examination Board and the state government have issued an order to change the question paper for Class X by adopting the previous pattern of separate question papers and answer sheets instead of the booklet pattern where questions are printed on answer sheets.

The petitioners have said that the new format has been changed without consulting heads of educational institutions, teachers, parents and experts in the field. Any change or new system should be introduced well in advance so that students can prepare well.

The students have sought directions to stop printing question papers in the new pattern and to quash the order on introducing the new question paper pattern. Justice S Sujatha directed the state government to file its statement of objections by next week.
