The High Court on Monday disposed of a PIL seeking directions to remove encroachments made by Brigade Enterprises Limited by constructing a building (Orion Mall) on stormwater drains and ‘B’ kharab land belonging to the government.

The PIL also sought directions to remove encroachments by Gstaad Hotels Ltd and ETA Karnataka Estates Limited (ETA Mall on a park at Binnypet, JW Marriot Hotel on a stormwater drain).

The petitioner had sought directions to provide compensation and alternative property to those belonging to the poor and middle classes who have lost their property in the demolition drive by BBMP. A division bench comprising Chief Justice S K Mukherjee and Justice Ravi Malimath directed the petitioner to give a representation to the BBMP commissioner and that he consider the same within three months.
