Discord over sharing the spoils of pickpocketing resulted in a murder at Cottonpet, Central Bengaluru, on Friday.

Ajith, of Anjanappa Garden, is suspected to have been murdered by two of his childhood friends and fellow pickpockets around 8.30 am, police said.

Aravind and Gunda went to Ajith’s house and found him loitering outside.

They attacked him in the leg with a dagger before absconding. Ajith was taken to Victoria Hospital where he died around 7.30 pm as one of the veins was slashed in the attack.

A senior police officer said the three men used to pick the pockets in the busy Majestic area.

Ajith had assaulted his friends six months ago over sharing the spoils. The duo ganged up and vowed revenge.

“There are leads that the suspects are hiding in Tamil Nadu. Our team will soon go to Tamil Nadu and catch them,” the officer added.

Hotel worker killed

A gang of three fatally stabbed a 39-year-old man at Ramaiah Layout in Banaswadi, East Bengaluru, on Friday night.

Three men on a motorcycle waylaid Sanjay Tamang as he walked home around 11.30 pm.

They stabbed him repeatedly and crushed his head with an iron rod before speeding off, said the inspector of the jurisdictional Banaswadi police station.

Tamang died instantly from the grievous wounds. Local residents saw him lying on the road and called the police, he added.

“We are verifying the CCTV footage of the locality. We have picked up a few workers of the hotel for questioning,” the inspector said.

Tamang hailed from Assam and had moved down to Bengaluru just six months ago in search of a job.

He started working at a hotel at Ramaiah Layout and lived in a rented house in Kammanahalli along with 12 of his co-workers.
